Many production companies around the globe align themselves to the 5’S’ standards to achieve more efficient production output, exceptional work quality, cleaner working environments, reduction in stress levels and an energised work force. These standards relate to a change in mind-set on how we operate, function and behave so that everyone can benefit.
How does this work?
- The first standard called ‘Seiri’ meaning to ‘sort’ looks at the best way to physically organise your workplace; from stores to production, from logistics, to accounts to marketing.
- The second standard called ‘Seiton’ which means ‘Set’ looks at the steps that establish a consistent way of doing things
- ‘Seiso’, the third step meaning ‘Shine’, is how to work in a clean environment which will enhance productivity and turn-around time.
- ‘Seiketsu’ or ‘Standardisation’, ensures consistency in maintaining the standards implemented in the first three steps of ‘sorting, setting and shining. The whole idea when completing this training is consistency – a way of work, a way of life, a working culture.
